The fruit and veggie vendors outside the Slussen subway station were selling four different types of wild mushrooms as well as locally picked lingon-berries on Saturday afternoon. In cobble-stone paved Russian Square (Rysstorget), near one of the two flower stands, we met a well-tailored Russian who plans to soon open a new Russian restaurant on Sveavägen. We also encountered an American friend wearing a Paul Smith hat he bought in Barcelona, a young Swedish couple getting romantic on concrete steps not far from a locally famous fried herring wagon, a proud father whose 4 ½ year-old-son was wearing a bright sweater he just got from his grandma, a gang of teenagers with their faces painted like bandits who were involved in a school initiation ceremony, and some pretty girls dressed in fall colors, who were going shopping or chatting on mobiles.
