After an extremely successful debut in Stockholm, Peter Farago and Ingela Klemetz Farago’s exhibition “Northern Women In Chanel” is shifting to Copenhagen. The Designmuseum in Copenhagen will show 50 large prints and 25 more intimate black-and-white portraits.

The exhibit is the result of a unique two year collaboration between the photographer duo and Chanel. The project has resulted in a lavish coffee table book entitled “Northern Women in Chanel.”

This is a must-see exhibit for anyone who loves Chanel and fashion photography at its finest.

The women represented in the book and exhibit are Nordic supermodels like Helena Christensen, Caroline Winberg, Freja Beha, Louise Pedersen, Dorothea Barth Jörgensen, Frida Gustavsson, Suvi Koponen, and Kirsi Pyrhonen.

The Exhibition will be launched on February 1, which coincidentally is the first day of the upcoming Copenhagen Fashion Week. The exhibit will continue until April 8, 2012.

For a country with a population of only about 320,000, Iceland seems to give birth to a surprisingly large number of wildly creative people. It must be the magic vibrations coming from the amazing lunar landscape. One of the biggest new creative talents is multimedia artist and fashion designer Harpa Einarsdottir. The first collection of her label Ziska, pictured above, is a knock-out!

Harpa is still waiting to get the collection from the manufacturers.

“It will be sold online on my website Ziska.is and in Eva N.Y. on Bowery, and in a store here in Iceland,” the designer informs me via a Facebook message. “I´m working on the winter collection, actually two of them so I´m quite busy these days,” she adds.

In addition to her work in fashion, Harpa (aka Ziska) is an exceptional illustrator, envisioning a mystical, sometimes scary world where good and evil reign side-by-side. (I’ve included one image of a collage from a series called “Memories of a Glacier.”

As the first snows of winter dust the streets of Stockholm, my thoughts turn to Iceland. Right about now, it would be nice to be warming my toes in the Blue Lagoon or some of the other geothermal heated pools with dot the North Atlantic land mass perched between North America and Europe.

I once took part in a fashion photo shoot by Börkur Sighortson on the outskirts of Reykjavik.
What has Börkur been up to lately? An excursion on the Internet turned up these images Börkur took of the S/S 2012 collection of swimwear by Nikita of Iceland.

The Autumn Contemporary Sale of Bukowski’s Auction House in Stockholm included a rare print of Richard Avedon’s “Dovima with Elephants, evening dress by Dior, Cirque d’Hiver, Paris, August 1955.” (Click on the picture to see a larger version of this magnificent photo).

The 130 X 106 cm image was sold on November 16 for 3 million kronor, making it one of the most expensive photos ever sold in Sweden. The photo is signed by the photographer, and numbered 13/50. The dress worn by the model Dovima is the first evening dress designed for Christian Dior by his new assistant, Yves Saint-Laurent.

Alvedon once said of Dovima: “She was the last of the great elegant, aristocratic beauties…the most remarkable and unconventional beauty of her time.”

Veronica Fratrielli

We chatted with Veronica Fratrielli while waiting for the Carin Wester show to start on Wednesday evening, during the Stockholm Fashion Week. She was wearing a colorful coat by Desigual, a Spanish label, together with vintage shoes and jewellery.

Origninally from Poland but currently living in Oslo, Veronica (who has a cool blog!) at http://www.veronicafratielli.blgspot.com will soon be shifting to Sweden to study fashion at the University of Stockholm.

Felicia Margineanu Photo: David B.

Felicia Margineanu is a young woman who seems to be burning with creative passion. She is only 18 years old and already works as a professional photographer, with her own business.
Some months ago Felicia shot three separate fashion/press events for me in a single day, and did a great job. At an age when many of her peers are thinking more about recreation than avocation, Felica is moving full-speed towards the fulfilment of her dreams.

Yesterday evening I caught up with her (and her friend Jonni) on the steps of Stockholm’s Gustav Vasa church, near the Odenplan subway stop.
”I’ve had four shoots already this week,” Felicia told me –and it was only Wednesday!

Many people have already heard about Ms. Margineanu for a special reason: After national elections brought an anti-immigrant political party into the Swedish parliament in 2010, Felicia—just 17 years old at the time—used Facebook to call for a public (more…)

A shady character

I recently visited the studio of photographer Cengiz Bozkaya in order to have my photo taken wearing various models of Ashade sunglasses. They are a new brand of “organic eyewear” designed in Sweden that will be coming on the market in a few months. A blonde woman named Johanna was the female model.

We took turns standing against a large, three-sided white backdrop wearing the shades and turning our heads in various directions. “Put your chin up a bit up. Look directly in the camera again. Tie your hair back tighter. Hands on the hips, please… and now we’ll try it with your hair fluffier.”

It is an interesting experience to serve as a model for the first time. It was also rather fun. I got to pose (more…)

Swedish model Frida Gustavsson is red-hot, as is the acting career of Alexander Skarsgård. The Swedish duo, together with model Lara Stone, are featured in an editorial called “Spellbound” published in the July 2011 issue of Vogue USA. The editorial was shot by Peter Lindbergh, with styling by Grace Coddington. The mood in the shoot is nostalgic, with references to film noir of the 1940s.

Alexander Skarsgård is no stranger to celluloid and TV. He is already well-known to Yanks from his starring roles in Trueblood and Generation Kill. Together with his actor-father Stellan, Alexander appears in Lars von Trier’s new film Melancholia.

Victor Nylander is the fresh new face of both Dior Homme and Versace in their SS11 campaigns. Willy Vanderperre shot a video and eight photos of the 18-year-old from Roskilde, Denmark for Dior Homme, while the maestro-himself—-fashion photographer Mario Testino –used the tall Dane for the Versace campaign.

In the Dior Homme video, it appears that Victor is having a pleasant snooze in the sunlight.

Nylander, who got discovered by sending his photos to Scoop Models, told the Fashion Spot blog that his idea of fun is hanging out with his friends and watching soccer. His favorite piece of clothing is some light blue Converse.

He is signed with Scoop and Ford Models.

These moody images of Ivana Helsinki’s Velvet Lake collection for Fall/Winter 2012 which popped up in my inbox this morning give a sense of what the weather is like right now in Scandinavia. The photo series was taken by Mikko Ryhänen, with styling by the designer, Paola Ivana Suhonen. The models are Sirkku and Leila from Paparazzi Models Helsinki.

Hair and make up (love those eyes!) is by Marjo-Riitta Härkönen.
If you happen to be in vicinity of New York City on February 17, by the way, you might have a chance to see a catwalk show of the new collection. The Finnish brand is for the second time on the list of the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NY.
