The capital of Sweden is a serene, safe and beautiful city. But where do Stockholmers go when they want to enjoy some creative chaos for a change? One option is to hike over to Södra Teatern and experience the good-humored decadence of the Hootchy Kootchy Club.
This modern burlesque show is part cabaret, part masquerade, and extremely entertaining. More-is-more is the fashion philosophy of the regular guests, many of whom came equipped on Saturday night with boxing gloves or tennis gear in keeping with the “Freaky Fitness” theme of the evening.
Foul-mouthed Dr. Donut of the USA added a perverse flavor to the festivities in his role as the villainous Master of Ceremonies, while fellow-New Yorker Peekaboo Pointe and several of her Swedish colleagues did the traditional tassle-twirling.
If you were not part of the large crowd (more girls than guys) which packed the venue on Saturday, it is still possible to get your burlesque fix in the near future. The Stockholm Burlesque Festival will take place October 27-31.
